Review: Tales from the Borderlands Episode 1

Guys, I love the Telltale games and Tales from the Borderlands, in my opinion, is the best. Now don’t get me wrong, I loved The Walking Dead Season 1 and 2 and The Wolf Among Us games, but there is something about Tales of the Borderlands that really interested me.

But for now, I am going to give you a review about episode 1: Zero Sum.

The first episode of Tales from the Borderlands caught my attention as soon as it started with the “This game adapts to the choices you make” and then I was like, “crap”. I honestly don’t like morality games but I play them anyways. I always feel guilty after picking a choice but that’s honestly how I feel.

The plot of the story so far (I’m going to try not to spoil this) starts out with Rhys, the main character, searching for someone named “Fiona” and then he gets hit by a wanderer of some sort and passes out. When Rhys wakes up, he is wrapped in rope and dragged by the wanderer and is asked about the “Gortys Project” and so, Rhys starts from the beginning with him on Hyperion and the main story starts there. You also play as Fiona, but I’m not going any further than that.

For those that have played the Telltale games, you know there is a lot of violence, blood, drugs, and foul language so this is a 18+ game. Also, Episode 1 also has Zero from Borderlands 2 and I think Zero is so friggin’ awesome.

I play Telltale games on my iPad because I think it’s a lot easier for me, since it is a point and click, swiping movement type of game versus using a controller where I have to quickly press a button at a certain time and I’m a little slow so that doesn’t work for me.

Tales from the Borderlands Episode 1 was mind-blowing, I was so into it. I absolutely loved it and would definitely get Episodes 2-5. This episode was hilarious and intriguing. I love the story and I just love Telltale games in general, but since this is Borderlands, I love this one even more.

Have you guys played Tales from the Borderlands?

  1. Tales from the Borderlands is probably my second favorite Telltale game so far. It does indeed start out incredibly strong, with lots of comedy, great music and an interesting story in the first episode. I enjoyed the rest of the game as well, but felt it never really reached the peak that the first episode did. Still, the writing is great throughout so that’s a plus.

If you haven’t already, I’d also recommend The Wolf Among Us, however it’s a lot darker than the lighthearted tale of Borderlands.
